Here is a sample syllabus for an introductory survey course on the United States from the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the twenty-first century. I assigned a new textbook written by the eminent scholars Glenda Gilmore and Thomas Sugrue. In addition to the textbook, this course will introduce students to a variety of primary source materials. Non-majors will gain a solid grounding in the study and practice of history from this course.
