University Teaching Experience
Courses for which I have served as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of History at Syracuse University:
History 101: American History to 1865, Fall 2016 (Syllabus prepared by Susan Branson)
History 210: Ancient History, Fall 2015 (Syllabus prepared by Craige Champion)
History 102: American History since 1865, Spring 2015 (Syllabus prepared by Jeffrey Gonda)
History 121: Global History, Fall 2014 (Syllabus prepared by Junko Takeda)
Overview of Responsibilities:
As a teaching assistant in the history department, I am assigned two or three discussion sections each semester. The discussion sections meet once a week to have in depth conversations about lecture material and to engage with primary sources. I have an average of twenty students per section and am responsible for forty to sixty students per semester.
I strive to incorporate a variety of lesson formats and activities in my sections. Students work collaboratively, respond to images and video clips, role play, prepare mini-presentations, workshop papers, and conduct close readings of primary sources.
In addition to leading sections, I have assisted professors with preparing course materials, such as essay questions, weekly writing assignment topics, and exam content. I delivered a lecture to the entire Global History class in Fall 2014 and also gave a lecture in Ancient History.
Other Teaching Experience
Since I began working as a private tutor when I was a junior in high school, I have had extensive experience instructing students of all ages and grade levels, from pre-school students to adult learners. At Ohio Wesleyan University, I completed a double-major in education and history. I am qualified to teach middle school social studies and math. I have worked with students in the United States, India, and Hungary. This wide range of experience has increased my confidence in the classroom and has helped me learn to effectively communicate with all students.
